We aim to give every person a fulfilling life in a flourishing community, and that takes teamwork. Our colleagues liaise with education, social care teams and partner organisations across healthcare, voluntary, and community support systems. The result is shared knowledge, joined-up care, and happier residents. We call our approach One Council. And it makes all the difference.

For you, One Council means the opportunity to share ideas, make suggestions and help turn challenges into triumphs.

Education and Skills
Our Education and Skills service are a crucial hub for steering education in Wiltshire. As the council’s lead, their job is to manage the ever-changing education landscape and build effective relationships with partners and stakeholders. Their focus is to deliver business plan priorities, ensuring a shared focus on the achievement of all children, with a key aim of closing the gap for the most vulnerable pupils.

Professional & Personal Development

We know that continuing your professional development is critical when working with vulnerable people. As a council, we have an established development pathway which we have built in line with the BASW’s Professional Capabilities Framework. We are also a key member of the Pan Dorset Wiltshire Training Partnership and through collaboration with Bournemouth University, we offer more learning opportunities to continually develop your practice. We are truly proud of the support we are able to offer through bespoke training plans and working with high-quality practice educators and assessors.

We know progression is important to you, but it can mean different things to different people. That’s why we’ve created a range of support tools where you can gain valuable experience, acquire new skills and embrace greater responsibilities. Each progression journey is bespoke, but we have defined some fundamental steps:

Person giving a presentation

Entry-level: These are the first jobs, usually needing little experience or qualifications.

Mid-level: These require more experience and skills, often with added responsibilities.

Senior-level: These roles involve important decisions, team management, and major contributions to the organisation.

Leadership: Managing the organisation’s direction and strategy as managers or directors.

Side stepping: Switching roles or departments for diverse experience or for more education to progress or get qualifications.

Flexible working

People give their best when their job fits in with their lives. So, wherever possible, we offer flexible working. There are several options available:

  • Flexi-time scheme (for most roles)
  • Compressed or part-time hours
  • Job shares or term-time contracts where appropriate.

We’ve invested heavily in new tech to make flexible working possible.
