Search & applyWork Experience
Want to know if a role or organisation is right for you? Why not try work experience? At the council, we offer placements for school students, school-leavers, undergraduates, graduates, and people looking to get back into work, in a variety of service areas. The work is unpaid but hugely valuable: you’ll get a great insight into the council and possible career options.
The application window for work experience placements will be open for two weeks at the beginning of January, April, July, and October (subject to availability). To apply please refer to the work experience job advertisement and complete the online application form.
Apprenticeships
With an apprenticeship, your work counts. You get paid, hands-on experience, plus a national qualification through classroom learning – yes, you earn while you learn. To join us as an apprentice you have to be over 16, but there’s no upper age limit. As long as you’re keen, we’ll consider your application.
T-Levels
Aged 16-19? Keen to kick off your career? A T-level (Technical-level) qualification could be just what you need. With this option, you can gain practical experience while studying for a T-level qualification, which is great for your CV. Each work placement runs for at least 45 days and is unpaid.
Care Experienced Young People
The council is a corporate parent to children in care. We’re responsible for improving their lives wherever we can. We offer various career options with the council, so young people can get the best possible start in their adult lives. Care Experienced Young People can apply for our internal vacancies via their personal advisors, get a guaranteed interview slot (if they meet the minimum criteria), undertake mock interviews and apply for valuable work experience. We prioritise children and young people who have been in care over those who have not.
