We are an open, transparent council that our communities can trust. Our Information Governance Officers, Solicitors and Electoral Services Officers all play their part. Our Legal professionals shape our authority’s direction, while Elections, Information Governance and Democratic Service teams ensure we operate in a legally compliant way. It’s all about upholding the highest standards, striving for our mission and serving our community.

Legal
Our legal professionals work on complex and diverse legal matters that make a real impact on our community. In fact, their work shapes the direction of our local authority. Legal Service includes vital teams, each specialising in a distinct field: Childcare, Property (including planning), Commercial, Litigation (covering adult care, homelessness, and education) and Public Law and Compliance (encompassing corporate complaints). It’s varied and challenging work: could you be a lawyer at Wiltshire?

Elections
Every election. Every referendum. At every stage. Our Elections team manages each event to meet the highest standards. Join us, and you’ll be applying legislative compliance, good practice and official guidance to uphold democratic processes.

Information Governance
Looking after information is a complex matter. This team provides expert guidance while implementing the National Information Governance Agenda. Our professionals check that policies such as Information Security, Data Protection and Freedom of Information meet national requirements, particularly when it comes to GDPR. And they make sure our team understand their responsibilities when it comes to information governance.

Democratic Services
When decisions are made, they must follow legislation and regulations – and that’s where our Democratic Officers come in. They ensure that official processes are observed by the Council, Cabinet, Committees and key partnerships, while providing administration and supporting the Monitoring Officer.

Progression.

We know progression is important to you, but it can mean different things to different people. That’s why we’ve created a range of support tools where you can gain valuable experience, acquire new skills and embrace greater responsibilities. Each progression journey is bespoke, but we have defined some fundamental steps:

Mid-level: These require more experience and skills, often with added responsibilities.

Senior-level: These roles involve important decisions, team management, and major contributions to the organisation.

Leadership: Managing the organisation’s direction and strategy as managers or directors.

Side stepping: Switching roles or departments for diverse experience or for more education to progress or get qualifications.

Flexible working

People give their best when their job fits in with their lives. So, wherever possible, we offer flexible working. There are several options available:

  • Flexi-time scheme (for most roles)
  • Compressed or part-time hours
  • Job shares or term-time contracts where appropriate.

We’ve invested heavily in new tech to make flexible working possible.
