Adult services covers a variety of community based services for adults of all ages, including adult social care and commissioning and housing.

Children’s services covers a range of social care and educational services, including children’s social care, child disability, commissioning performance and school improvement.

Community, economy and environmental services ensure that we create an attractive and enjoyable environment for the people of Wiltshire, from maintaining roads to cultural activities. Services include economy and planning, housing, highways and transport, waste services, environmental control, community safety, public health, registration services, customer services and work with our communities through our libraries, heritage and arts services, area boards and campuses.

Corporate services provide vital support within the council to ensure all of our services are delivered effectively. Areas include finance, legal and democratic services, human resources, organisational development, information services, facilities management and property services, policy and performance, press office, communications and marketing teams, procurement and a dedicated programme office.

We’re committed to helping young people to improve their employability. We have a number of schemes in place that enable us to recruit, train and develop the next generation of employees. We’re also working closely with local employers to encourage them to provide more training and job opportunities for Wiltshire’s under-25s.

Apprenticeships School leavers Work experience Wiltshire Care Leavers

Apprenticeships are a great way to earn and learn. You get to build your skills and knowledge through on-the-job training and usually some classroom learning. On completion, you’ve gained a nationally recognised qualification and usually the offer of a full-time job.

Our apprenticeships cover a wide range of roles in areas such as:

• Health and social care - adults
• Business and administration
• Children and young people’s workforce
• Customer service
• IT applications

Each apprenticeship takes between one and three years to complete. Look out for apprenticeship opportunities advertised on this website. You can also sign up for email alerts to make sure you don’t miss out the next time we’re recruiting.

Many of our roles require little or no specific experience – just the right skills, personal qualities and academic qualifications. For some it’s useful if you’ve gained experience in a holiday or temporary job, on a work placement or perhaps as a volunteer. Just take a look at the person specification of any role you’re interested in to see if you fit the profile. 

Work experience is unpaid voluntary work that gives you valuable insights into the world of work and potential career options. We believe a placement should provide engaging, informative and worthwhile work. A good placement will give you important personal and professional skills, access to experienced people and new responsibilities.

We offer placements suitable for school students, school-leavers, undergraduates, graduates and people looking to get back into work, in a variety of service areas.

The council is the corporate parent to care experienced young people and children looked after in the social care system in Wiltshire. As such, the council has special responsibilities to improve the lives of Wiltshire care experienced young people and looked after children. The council will strive to accommodate placement requests from care experienced young people, with priority being given to these requests over non-care experienced young people / looked after children.

Volunteering
