Social workers celebrating being recognised as Outstanding

Wiltshire Council rated ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED

We’re really proud that OFSTED recently gave our Children’s Services its highest rating – ‘Outstanding’.

Since 2019, there’s been a big push to not just maintain the good services but to improve them further. This includes investing in new teams and preventative services, which has been particularly effective. Even as needs have increased nationally, our investment has helped keep the demand for children’s services stable and more children are being well-supported.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to our hardworking staff who demonstrate tremendous commitment to ensuring our children and young people are given the support to succeed. That is what we are here to do, and I’m pleased that this has been recognised by Ofsted.”

– Terence Herbert, Chief Executive

The council’s strategic plans put children at the forefront, and this continued focus is really making a difference. The inspectors were especially impressed with our ‘one council’ approach, which brings together services like housing, care leavers’ support, and safeguarding young adults.

Key areas like the impact of leaders, the progress of children in care, and the support for care leavers were all rated as Outstanding. A special shout-out to the Integrated Front Door team, who ensure children and families get swift, effective help, even in the evenings and weekends.

This is a fantastic achievement and shows our commitment to supporting the wellbeing and development of children in Wiltshire.
