Application process.

Applying for jobs with us couldn’t be easier! You can search for roles from the homepage or by clicking the search & apply button at the top of the screen. Please ensure you read the role profile and role description carefully before deciding whether the opportunity is right for you. Select the ‘Apply’ button to either complete a standard application form or to upload your CV and covering letter.

Applying for a new job is a big life step and can be daunting. To help give you clarity of what to expect when applying to Wiltshire Council, we’ve defined a simple application process.

  • Step one

    Visit our website to apply or upload your CV and cover letter, you can also create a profile in our recruitment system.

  • Step two

    If your application has been successful, a hiring manager will contact you. If not, feel free to ask for feedback.

  • Step three

    The next step is an interview with us, either virtually or in-person, depending on the circumstances.

  • Step four

    We operate guaranteed interview schemes (if you meet the essential criteria) in line with our commitment to disability confident, veterans and care leavers.

  • Step five

    If your interview is successful, we will carry out compliance and vetting. These checks will include referencing.

  • Step six

    Your new line manager will contact you to arrange a start date. You’ll then receive your formal contract.

FAQs.

  • If you don’t have access to a computer or smartphone, you can access one at any of Wiltshire Council’s libraries. Alternatively, you can call our recruitment team on 01225 718 040 or email [email protected].

  • No. We have to do a series of checks before we offer you a role. Don’t resign from your current job until these checks are completed.

  • If you are submitting a CV please read our CV and cover letter criteria for tips, info, and advice.

  • No – however, we may review this in exceptional circumstances.

  • Firstly, your right to work documents. The interviewer will take a copy. If you are interviewing virtually you will need to hold your documents up to the camera to show the interviewer. (If you are successful, you will need to bring that document with you on your first day).

    Secondly, if the role description says you will be required to drive on council business, please bring your photocard driving license to the interview. Thirdly, if your role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS, formerly CRB), please bring your original documents.
