Our Registered Manger, Jan Evans explains how a Reablement Approach differs from traditional domiciliary care
“Reablement focuses on what people can do and builds on these skills rather than focusing on what the individual cannot do. Reablement also works with community partners and organisations to re-connect the individual to activities and groups that have been, or are important to that person. This improves well-being and reduces loneliness.
Unlike traditional domiciliary care which assists an individual to carry out their day to day activities such as washing, dressing, using the toilet and preparing meals Reablement takes a person centred approach. The individual sets their own goals to be achieved over a short time period and the Reablement worker helps them to achieve these goals through encouragement and support.
Each customer’s visit is defined by the planned goals for the visit and the confidence of the customer in working towards these goals at a particular visit. Visits are not scheduled for a specific time period but are flexible, to ensure the customer has the opportunity and time they need to achieve their goals”
