Upskill Apprenticeships - What are they, and why are they so great?
Hey Kathryn, tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hi, my name is Kathryn, I have been at the Council for 10 months now and work as an Apprenticeship & Training officer. My role is to inform people about apprenticeships and to support while they are training. My hobbies are Cross-fit and running with my lovely little Jack Russell.
What is an upskilling apprenticeship?
An upskilling apprenticeship is for any existing member of staff who would like to gain accredited qualifications in their job role. An apprenticeship lasts a minimum of 12 months and ranges from Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE level) – Level 7 (Masters degree).
Who can take on an upskilling apprenticeship?
An upskilling apprenticeship is suitable for any permanent member of staff (with the support of their manager), unfortunately, they aren’t available for fixed-term or agency workers but we do have lots of relevant internal training.
What's so great about it?
The benefits of gaining your qualifications through the apprenticeship route are that it is fully funded by the apprenticeship levy that Wiltshire Council has to pay and you are given 20% off the job time to be able to complete your learning. You learn while you earn!
Any advice to someone looking to start an upskill apprenticeship?
If you would like to find out more apprenticeships then please contact Nathalie Smith (OD consultant for apprenticeships), or myself, to find out what apprenticeship pathways are available in your service area. You will also need to make sure your manager is supportive of the training.
