Betty - Senior Pension Officer

Betty - Senior Pension Officer

Tell us a little bit about yourself (as much as you want to reveal!) – Your work background, your interests…

My name is Betty. I am a Senior Pension Officer. I work for the pension section administering the local government pension scheme. I have worked for Gwent Torfaen Pension Fund and moving to Wiltshire was a big step for me considering the commute involved as l live in Wales. I was with Torfaen for 8 years and had grown to be part of the working family there. At first l told myself that l was mad taking on the commute and the position. When l started my new job it was worth the move! I joined a great and helpful team. I could have not asked for more. Honestly, l have been here for almost 2 months but l feel as if its 2 years. That only happens when you have a great team around you.

What would you say is the best thing about working at Wiltshire Council, and your job specifically?

Firstly, l think if your team does not work together, it affects everything about your job. I have a great team that l work with. That is another thing that made me feel comfortable about the move. The team is very helpful and understanding.

Also to add to that, I am a young parent. The flexibility has made it possible for me to be able to balance home and work life. This is very important for me.

As for my job, I think l like everything about it. I deal with members, employers and other outside organisations. Understanding my clients is what drives me and ensuring they are happy with the service they are getting.
