Canon's offer respite and short break provision for children and young people with learning disabilities, complex health and care needs and challenging behaviours.

Canon’s House in Devizes is a lifeline for families across Wiltshire. We provide overnight short breaks for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex health and care needs.

Whether it be some much-needed time with partners or siblings, a break in providing full-time care, or an opportunity to clean the house or do the shopping, parents, and carers can rely on Canon’s House to be there when needed, secure in the knowledge that their child is safe and receiving the best possible care and support.

The home is registered with Ofsted and the team here supports children and young people aged 5-17 to experience stability, familiarisation, a sense of belonging, and positive physical, emotional and mental health. 

We're located in wonderful Devizes - a vibrant and supportive community in a quiet residential area, with far-reaching views of the Wiltshire countryside.

    • 26 days holiday plus bank holidays, rising to 31 after 5 years’ service, as well as the option to purchase an additional 20 days.

Canon's House has been adapted to meet the needs of children & young people and this includes the installation of a fully accessible bathroom on the ground floor, a lift, a large conservatory, and hoisting equipment throughout the home.

Each bedroom is themed, all chosen by the children & young people themselves.

We consider the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural needs of children and young people as being central to their identity and welfare and are proactive in supporting them to fulfill them.

We support children and young people to explore their own religion and culture as well as those of others and work towards increasing their understanding and acceptance of diversity.

Within the home, our staff offers a range of activities such as arts and crafts, board games, sensory play, musical instruments, singing, and much more.

We place great emphasis on education and on supporting children and young people to achieve in this vitally important area.

The majority of children and young people coming to Canon’s House attend Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Schools, and as such are supported through Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP).

All children and young people that attend Canon’s House are supported by a Social Worker as part of a Child in Need (CIN) Plan.

Kevin Derby - Manager Beth - Deputy Manager Imogen - Relief Care Officer Saidhbh - Care Officer

Hello! I'm Kevin and I am the manager of Canon's House. 

I have had the joy of working at Canon's House for around 5 years, but only recently as the manager. 

It's my job to make sure that the home is safe and that everything is as it should be! You can always talk to me and let me know if you are not happy, or if you are worried about anything. 

I work really closely with the Wiltshire Council, Social Works, Doctors, Schools, and lots of other professionals. 

When not at work, I really enjoy riding my bikes, playing golf and bowls, and spending time with my family. My favourite food is scampi and chips and mint ice cream!

Hello, I'm Beth and I am the Deputy Manager of Canon's House. 

I have been at Canon's House for a couple of years and I love working here! 

My main job is to support Kevin in managing the home and to support the staff with their training, skills, and development. 

When I am not at work I enjoy going to the gym and I am in the process of buying my first home! My favorite food is a burger and I love films, music and motor racing!

Hi, my name is Imogen and I am one of the Relief Care Officers at Canon's House. 

I love working at Canon's House and have been part of the Canon's House family for around 5 years.

My main job is in London, so I work at Canon's House and support the children in the evenings and at weekends.

I am really fun to be with and I love to sing, even though some people say I'm not a very good singer!!!

Hi, my name is Saidhbh and I am a Care Officer at Canon's House.

I am pretty new to Canon's House but I've settled in really well and am getting to know the children and the staff.

I am loving working with the children and young people at Canon's House and especially like the trips and activities that we organise!

I am really fun to work with as I have loads of energy and like to play in the garden as much as I can - even in the rain sometimes!

Here I am on our amazing climbing fort in the back garden!
