Flexible working

We have a suite of policies covering a variety of flexible working approaches including part time working, flexi-time, compressed hours, job share and home working.

Equality and diversity

Our dignity at work policy outlines our commitment to creating an environment of positive working relationships where all employees are to be treated with dignity and respect.

Policies

We have a number of policies covering key aspects of employment including recruitment, conduct, reward and safety. We aim to make our policies employee focussed and easy to understand. All policies can be found on our internal website, HR Direct.

We provide managers with guidance documents, template letters, flowcharts and toolkits to help them implement the policies within their teams.

Flexible working

At Wiltshire Council we see an opportunity to encourage innovation, challenge the norm and use flexible working to help us achieve our goal to provide customer focused and inclusive services by adopting a  'can do' approach.

Flexible working focuses on outputs and achievements, on "what you do" rather than on "where and when you do it".

We have a suite of policies covering a variety of flexible working approaches including part time working, flexi-time, compressed hours, job share and home working.

Individual employees can request flexible working and managers are also encouraged to take a proactive and team based approach to ensure the benefits of flexible working can be maximised.

The availability of these policies depends on feasibility and operational requirements in each service area.

Equality and diversity

Wiltshire Council believes in equality of opportunity throughout employment, including pay, training and development, recruitment and retention. We are committed to developing policies, practices and procedures that promote equality and diversity and anti-discriminatory practices.

Our dignity at work policy outlines our commitment to creating an environment of positive working relationships where all employees are to be treated with dignity and respect.

Every employee is expected to embrace a culture which provides supportive and positive working relationships and behaviour which underpins the council's vision, values and beliefs.

Health and safety

Wiltshire Council has a corporate health, safety and welfare policy which aims to minimise the risk of injury or ill-health so far as is reasonably practicable.

This policy underpins specific team policies and guidance. It relies on the co-operation, common sense, care and vigilance of individual employees at all levels to minimise risks.

The council regularly reviews and updates this policy to take account of new legislation and working practices.

In addition to this, a team of health and safety advisors are available to research and answer any work-related safety queries, and an occupational health service provides professional advice on employee health and wellbeing issues, referrals and health assessments.
