Leanne Kendrick, Management Accountant

I started working for West Wiltshire District Council 5 years ago as a Trainee Finance Officer; there they supported me as I studied for the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification at Wiltshire College. I worked in a number of areas in this time to help with my studies varying from dealing with the income received by the council, sending out invoices to the council's customers and paying the invoices received by the council.

I then moved on to work as an Accounting Technician helping the council's service managers to monitor their budgets in areas such as Legal, Housing and Environmental Services, assisting with the setting of the council's budget and preparing the year end accounts.

The Council continued to support me as I went on to study for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification by distance learning.

With the creation of One Council in April 2009 this created opportunities to build knowledge and experience in new areas and I became a Support Accountant in the Children and Education Finance team where I supported the youth centre managers along with the Connexions service and Youth Offending. I also became involved in areas such as preparing grant claims and helping with service reviews.

I have recently been appointed as a Management Accountant in the Department of Neighbourhood and Planning Finance Team, which will hopefully continue to provide new opportunities for me to develop and learn.

The best part of my job is that you get to visit all of the council's different service areas and see the great work that the council is doing. You then get to help the managers to use the financial resources that they have available to them in the best way.

Wiltshire Council has continued to support me all the way through my career enabling me to progress not only with my qualifications but also by helping me to put my studies in to practice and gain the necessary experience to enable me to get to where I am today.
