Our Statements & Strategies
1. “We will build a workforce that reflects the diversity of the local community, improving access to careers within the council.”
Strategy:
We will improve access to, and promote, recruitment opportunities by:
- Distributing more vacancy bulletins
- Re-developing our jobs website
- Revising all recruitment literature and advert design and developing a corporate recruitment brand
- Strengthening contact with schools and universities.
We will also:
- Include equality and diversity issues in mainstream workforce plans and use these plans to identify any under-representation in specific job roles
- Carry out an equality impact assessment on our recruitment process to ensure that our policies and procedures are fair.
2. “Through training and development, equality and diversity will be embedded as a key behaviour within staff and managers.”
We will embed equality and diversity as a key behaviour amongst staff and managers by:
- Including equality and diversity routinely in our induction programmes
- Providing access to e-learning equality and diversity opportunities for all staff working in public-facing roles and considering additional training if there is demand
- Making equality and diversity training an element of all mandatory modules in our Manager Learning and Development Programme
- Building equality and diversity objectives and competencies into appraisals for all managers.
