Wiltshire is a county of great diversity, and is where the term “Chalk and Cheese” originated. With an area of 3,480 sq km and a population of 435,000, Wiltshire is a largely rural county. The county is in easy reach of Bath, Bristol and Swindon and within 100 miles from London.
SCHOOLS
There are 242 schools in Wiltshire, (207 Primary, 29 Secondary and 6 Special schools), and a further 86 schools in Swindon Borough, (71 Primary, 10 Secondary and 5 Special schools). In addition there are 18 Independent schools in the county.

There are 176,655 households in Wiltshire (excluding those in Swindon Borough) of which 72% are privately owned.

CRIME
Wiltshire Police is the second safest place in England according to national crime figures. The Home Office figures also show that 27% of all crimes committed in Wiltshire are detected – 3% more than the average clear up rate in the country.
EMPLOYMENT
Only 2.7% of the working population of Wiltshire are unemployed, (figures released July 2006). North Wiltshire has the highest level of unemployment at 3.4% and West Wiltshire has the lowest at 1.1%
